NGP VAN is a privately held company which employs 190 people. It is based in Washington D.C. and its mission is to help progressive causes with their technology. They have supported the presidential campaigns of Democratic politicians such as Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. They have also provided support to many Democrats seeking office in the US Senate and Congress. NGP VAN is an international organization which has also supported progressives in both Canada and the United Kingdom.
The team at NGP VAN says that the last quarter of a political campaign is by far the most stressful part of the whole campaign. They put together a few fundamental tips to help staffers get through these trying times. Their first tip is to keep a few great email ideas in reserve. In the last quarter when the political team starts finding it hard to come up with new ideas they can then use these ideas in emails sent out to supporters. One of their ideas, given out for free, is to share what others gave to the campaigns. NGP VAN says this is a great way to get people to throw in some more dollars in their donation.
While it may seem obvious to some, NGP VAN says that because writing can take a long time it’s a really good idea to get content written and approved earlier in the political campaign. This way it can be sent out at crunch time in an efficient manner. This just leaves the team needing to get the emails fired up, test some subject lines, and get it out of the way.
Being organized and using a master calendar is critical, NGP VAN says. The campaign team needs to be able to track when emails were sent out and which email campaigns need to be followed up on and when. NGP VAN says this is really important for any consultant who has multiple clients on their hands.
Celebrating during a campaign when critical items are checked off is perfectly acceptable, NGP VAN says. It blows off some steam and also helps the team bond over something like a potluck.
