Ricardo Tosto is a Brazilian lawyer known for his knowledge of the law and performance in complex litigation. He is also known as one of the pioneers of class action or mass litigation suits in Brazil. He is currently a partner at Leite, Tosto and Barros Advocates. His firm has been listed by the Advocacies publication as one of the top 10 largest law firms in Brazil. Ricardo Tosto has risen from humble beginnings to creating one of the most respected law firms in Brazil. He started his practice with an office in a small room, by 2015 his firm has grown to have several branches and employees in Brazil.
Ricardo Tosto obtained his law degree from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie. Additionally he has an extension in Business Administration from Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado. He started his career as an advisor in the Legal Department and Human Resources of the Rede Group. He then become the director of Fundação Rede de Previdência Privada before starting his own firm. He is the main partner at his firm, Leite, Tosto and Barros Advocates. His firm specializes in business law, corporate law, tax law, banking law, intellectual property, copyright, environmental law, consumer law, electoral law, international law and competitive law. The firm also does conflict resolution and has done successful arbitration for some trade disputes. Ricardo Tosto is active in the judiciary both inside and outside the court room. Previously he presided over the Commission for Modernization of the Judiciary and the Judiciary Reform Commission of the Brazilian Bar Association. He is also on the board of directors for the Center for the Study of Law Firms and the Alumni Association Institute for Management Development Lausanne Switzerland. He was a forerunner in Brazilian electoral law and he is a founding member of the Brazilian Institute of Electoral and Partisan Law Studies (IBEDEP) and Ricardo on Facebook.
Outside the courtroom Ricardo Tosto is an author and columnist on issues such as politics and legal matters. He has authored his own book, The Process of Tiradentes together with Paulo Guilherme de Mendonça Lopes. The book contextualizes and annotates the transcript of the court case against Tiradentes, Ensign Joaquim José da Silva Xavier and their colleagues from Inconfidência Mineira. Ricardo Tosto is active in politics and he was an active participant in the 2006 election partnering with Paulo Maluf, Cristovam Buarque and Paulinho da Forca.
